BRIGHTHAMMER is live!

Despite work, home life, my need to be a perfectionist, and an almost four year old who refuses to go to sleep unless I am in the room with her all doing their best to stop me, I managed to finish Brighthammer – my high fantasy hack of gayhalforc's Sledgehammer game – just before the SledgeJammer game jam deadline. Phew!

I really like Sledgehammer. I'm a sucker for rules light OSR-ish games, pocketmods and zines, and hand illustrated DIY stuff, and Sledgehammer is all three of those things. However, while I don't mind grim dark settings – I love Trophy and Warhammer 40k – I'm a bit burnt out on the "everything's bleak and hopeless, covered in mud, blood, and shit, and you're likely going to die" games at the moment.

So I made Brighthammer – a "clean" high fantasy hack of Sledgehammer. I kept the core mechanics, altering a few things to make it more heroic, added Heritage and Classes (stolen from "the world's most popular roleplaying game", and rewrote the Corruption rules.

The game is currently pay-what-you-want (with a suggested price of $3) as it's only about half done. The Player Book zine is finished, and the game is playable with just that PDF, but I want to make a GM's Book zine as well. Once I finish that, the game will be priced at $3 – though I'll also make community copies available. I also want to do a "dirty" version of the booklets – so they look a bit more like bad photocopies –  and I have an idea for an adventure as well.

Stay tuned for further updates.
